The woman who appeared lifeless in underwear on the floor of a shared area in the Gemini apartment block in Platja d’en Bossa, Ibiza, on Saturday around 1:30 p.m., was identified by sources close to the case as a transgender sex worker exploited in the trade, according to reports to Diario de Ibiza, part of the same publishing group.
The deceased reportedly leapt from the building’s second floor, where a safe house was located with other women involved in prostitution, after experiencing a crisis that led her to jump through the apartment window.
Witnesses estimated the victim to be in her late twenties or early thirties, with people close to the victim describing that she became distressed while inside the flat on the street of Porreres, No. 4, before the fall.
Guardia Civil officers and Sant Josep Local Police attended the building, where neighbors were alarmed to find the young woman’s body, naked except for a thong at the time of death.
An ambulance transported the person to a private hospital, where she died despite medical efforts to stabilize her condition, according to statements from the Sant Josep Town Council.
No criminal indicators
Although several witnesses said someone deliberately pushed the young woman from the fourth-floor flat, located on Porreres Street, the initial investigations by the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil suggested a possible suicide.
In the days following the incident, the Office of Communication for the Guardia Civil clarified that there were no initial signs of violence, as the body did not show apparent physical trauma. Investigators continued to explore the circumstances surrounding the death to establish a clear account of events.
The Investigating Court No. 3 has taken charge of the case. After collecting initial testimonies from people close to the victim and other witnesses indicating she jumped due to fear of pregnancy, the forensic pathologist conducted an autopsy to determine if there was another life inside.
During the examination at the Institute of Legal Medicine, it was confirmed that the deceased was a transgender woman (biological male) who had undergone a dangerous procedure in Argentina of the reproductive organs, which left severe complications due to substandard medical practice.
The deceased was described as a foreign national whose origin has not been disclosed. She lived on the island and was reportedly far from her family. It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role at the time of the fall. The court plans to send samples to the toxicology institute to determine this.
Repatriation of the body
Family members contacted Metges del Món en Ibiza, a non-governmental organization that works with women in prostitution, to ask if they could assist with repatriating the victim’s body to her country of origin, as explained to Diario de Ibiza by representatives from Balears of the organization.
The organization noted that while they strive to provide social aid in vulnerable cases, they currently lack the financial resources to handle the repatriation process.
The Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police continues the case file and is nearing a conclusion, with the leading hypothesis stating the victim voluntarily jumped from the window of the apartment used for prostitution in Platja d’en Bossa.
