A court in Russia’s Trans-Baikal Territory convicted a local resident after his dogs attacked a pensioner. The ruling, announced by the district attorney’s press office, outlines a tragic incident that unfolded in December 2022 in the village of Khadakta.
According to the court, the defendant had been feeding two dogs without taking adequate steps to secure the neighboring public from potential harm. The home’s fencing allowed the animals to move beyond the owner’s property, creating a risk to passersby. On the night of December 14–15, the dogs attacked a 68-year-old woman, resulting in injuries that were deemed life-threatening at the time of the incident.
Following the attack, the dogs were euthanized. The 41-year-old dog owner was found guilty of causing death by negligence. The Uletovsky District Court sentenced him to a period of restricted freedom lasting one year and eight months. He was also ordered to pay compensation for moral and material damages and prohibited from keeping dogs in the future.
The case underscores the responsibility of dog owners to secure animals and prevent harm to nearby residents. It serves as a reminder that negligence in pet control can lead to serious legal consequences, including restrictions on personal liberty and financial restitution to victims.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of reported dog-bite cases across the region, where authorities emphasize preventive measures and accountability for pet owners.
