the weather is gone

The US Coast Guard confirmed information relayed on NBC about the oxygen reserves on the Titan diver. Officials indicated the oxygen supplies were expected to reach their limit at 7:08 East Coast time, which corresponds to 14:08 Moscow time.

Coast Guard Area 1 Response Coordinator Captain Jamie Frederick cautioned that an exact time for air depletion could not be stated with certainty and urged continued hope throughout the ordeal.

Officials noted that the oxygen within the bathtub was calculated to last for about 96 hours, equating to four days. There remains a possibility for the crew to stretch these reserves for a longer duration depending on conditions and operations.

Communication with Titan was lost on June 18, roughly ninety minutes after it descended into the wreck of the Titanic, which rests about 3.8 kilometers beneath the sea surface.

the search continues

The search for the missing submersible switched to an intensified chase for the remote-controlled vehicle launched from the Canadian vessel Horizon Arctic. A second drone is preparing to dive with the French research ship L Atalante taking part in the operation. A British Magellan apparatus is also reported to join the search. Earlier reports stated that permission issues in the past hindered collaboration, which some observers described as a significant delay in the response.

The crew of the lost OceanGate Expeditions submarine includes Stockton Rush, founder of the company, veteran French diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, British billionaire and space tourist Hamish Harding, and Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood along with his son Suleiman.

“these people experience maximum stress”

Jeff Carson, professor emeritus at Syracuse University, told Fox News that the divers may have faced oxygen depletion sooner than anticipated. He suggested that high levels of stress, rapid breathing, and heavy oxygen consumption could have accelerated the decline of available air.

There is also discussion about the possibility that the crew might conserve air by reducing activity. Experts note that underwater crafts are designed to be self-contained and capable of surfacing in an emergency, yet real world failures or entanglements can complicate such procedures.

A representative for Aaron Newman, an investor in OceanGate, said the craft is designed to resurface within 24 hours after a dive and that the vessel includes several systems to facilitate ascent. Other voices weigh in on the depth and structural integrity of the vessel, emphasizing that fatigue in hull material and microcracks could lead to catastrophic failure if pressure thresholds are exceeded.

Analysts also mentioned that if the sub remains wedged under the Titanic’s hull or inside the wreck, locating it becomes far more difficult and may justify deploying a second craft to assist in rescue operations.

echo of 1912

Reports from the New York Times note that Stockton Rush is married to Wendy Hollings Weil, who is connected to the descendants of Isidor and Ida Strauss, who were among the Titanic’s wealthiest passengers and perished in the disaster of 1912.

Wendy Hollings Weil reportedly joined Rush on multiple dives near the Titanic wreck in 1986. The Strauss family name appears in survivor accounts from the disaster, describing Isidor Strauss’s decision to remain on deck with his wife until the ship’s end, despite calls for evacuation.

The historical echoes surrounding the Titanic tragedy have long colored public interest in deep-sea exploration and the risks involved in underwater expeditions, especially when technology pushes the boundaries of pressure, depth, and endurance.
