In the Tver region, a repeat offender was linked to the theft of a washing machine that had been left on a skid in the entrance by the owner during a renovation. The incident was confirmed by the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The event occurred in the town of Bezhetsk. A 38-year-old resident reported to law enforcement that her washing machine, valued at around 10,000 rubles, had disappeared. She explained that shortly before the theft, she had placed the appliance on the landing to accommodate ongoing repairs in her apartment.
User investigators soon identified a suspect and detained him. The person in custody is a 59-year-old local resident with a prior criminal record and current unemployment. The man confessed to taking the equipment with the intention of selling it, recounting that he walked to the entrance, loaded the appliance onto a sled, and transported it to his home.
The suspect remains in custody at a temporary detention facility as the case proceeds through the judicial system.
In a separate report, authorities noted another instance involving the unlawful taking of property by an individual with a background in teaching. A former teacher is reported to have removed 31 laptops and other equipment from a computer classroom and attempted to dispose of the items through a pawn shop channel. The details of this case reflect ongoing concerns about property theft within the region and the measures taken by law enforcement to pursue and prosecute offenders.
These cases illustrate how property theft often unfolds when belongings are left temporarily unattended in shared spaces, such as building entrances or hallways, during renovations or other disruptions. They also highlight the role of local investigators in identifying suspects, verifying ownership, and pursuing legal action to recover stolen items and deter future offenses. Community members are reminded to secure personal belongings promptly, especially when renovations create opportunities for opportunistic theft. Local police stations maintain channels for reporting losses and providing updates on investigations, emphasizing cooperation with residents to prevent similar incidents in the future.
