SPIEF Coverage: Media and Social Media Activity Highlights
During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, media coverage surpassed 350.3 thousand words, according to a study by the PressIndex media and social media monitoring system. The findings were reviewed by socialbites.ca, offering a consolidated view of forum-related coverage across traditional outlets.
From June 5 to June 8, 2024, more than 126.8 thousand media publications referenced SPIEF, reflecting sustained interest across multiple outlets over the forum period.
The peak level of media attention occurred on June 7, with over 49 thousand mentions. The highest hourly spike happened at 17:00, exceeding 4.2 thousand mentions. Broadcast activity also rose between 13:00 and 17:00, averaging more than 3.3 thousand mentions per hour, and again between 19:00 and 20:00, reaching approximately 3.6 thousand mentions in that window.
The most frequently discussed topic related to SPIEF was Vladimir Putin’s support for indexing pensions for working retirees. Rounding out the top themes were proposals to raise the minimum wage by 2030 and efforts to outline the investment climate in the Krasnodar Territory.
Notably, the top three news items produced different broadcast patterns across leading channels during the forum, illustrating how message framing can vary by outlet.
The statement by Anatoly Aksakov, chair of the State Duma Financial Market Committee, about the preferential mortgage program drew the most attention on the media side. In second place was Putin’s stance on pension indexation for working retirees, followed by a report on the estimated deal amount tied to St. Petersburg.
On Telegram, more than 11.5 thousand posts appeared during the SPIEF window. Similar to traditional media, the highest volume of messages arrived on June 7, with over 35% of the total daily postings. Peak activity times included 11:00, 15:00, and 16:00, when posting volumes reached 2.7 thousand, 3.8 thousand, and 3.5 thousand respectively.
Across social networks, SPIEF 2024 generated more than 162.9 thousand mentions from June 5 to June 8. User engagement included over 238.9 thousand comments, around 76.6 thousand reposts, and more than 1.2 million likes. Overall reach captured around 120.9 million viewers with impressions surpassing 119.4 million.
The forum’s third day emerged as the most discussed period on social channels, with peak post activity around 15:00 and 16:00 reaching several thousand posts, and a similar surge around 17:00. This pattern underscores how audience interest can cluster around key moments and policy announcements.
Earlier SPIEF 2024 also highlighted new developments, such as the introduction of the first sweet protein candies in Russia, signaling a broader narrative around innovative products associated with the forum’s tech and consumer trends.
These observations illustrate how SPIEF’s resonance extends beyond headlines, shaping conversations across television, online media, and social platforms. The data reflects a multifaceted interest in pension policy, wage growth, investment climate, and regional economic signals that matter to policymakers, investors, and the public alike. The synchronization of TV, online press, and social chatter demonstrates the forum’s ability to drive cross-channel engagement and steer the public discourse during a major economic forum.
