The case involves 25 identified victims aged between 13 and 22 who were targeted through social networks and messaging platforms across 16 Spanish provinces. In total, investigations confirmed 25 victims residing in major cities and regions across Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, A Coruña, Tenerife, Las Palmas, Mallorca, Cáceres, Toledo, Pontevedra, Badajoz, Córdoba, Jaén, Burgos, and Zamora. Among these, 15 individuals were under the age of 18, with the remainder aged 18 to 22. The operation traces back to December 2020, when a complaint was filed at the Delicias Regional Police Station in Valladolid by a boy under 14. This complaint prompted the opening of a broader inquiry into the suspect’s online behavior, ultimately guiding investigators toward a larger ring of manipulation and exploitation that spanned multiple jurisdictions.
Initial inquiries verified the information reported by the victim and revealed that the alleged perpetrator was aware of the minor status of some of his targets. After months of meticulous research, authorities were able to identify and locate the individual in a town within the Seville province. This breakthrough was crucial to building the case, as it established a direct link between the suspect’s online activities and real-world locations where victims could be accessed and harmed.
Because the alleged crimes involve corruption, production of child pornography, and threats against minors, the accused was transferred to the justice system for formal processing. The investigation included a forensic examination of two mobile devices seized during the operation, conducted with the authorization of forensic authorities. Investigators also sought access to and analysis of the anonymous social media profile used by the suspect to deceive victims and maintain his control over them.
Analysts from the cybercrime unit found patterns consistent with the grooming of very young targets. The suspect engaged with youths through chat applications and social networks popular with adolescents. He presented himself as a young businessman and offered employment opportunities as a cover for his scheme, often presenting a high monthly payment as an incentive. Allegedly, his messages hinted at a job offer as an escort for incidents, with promises of around 5,000 euros per month plus additional benefits such as high-end devices or fashion items to lure victims.
Law enforcement noted the complexity of the case, with an extensive volume of material to review. Estimates suggested the size of the data involved was significant, given the demand for content and the social manipulation techniques employed. The operation required careful analysis of digital files to establish timelines, connections between victims, and the offender’s pattern of contact across various platforms. The investigators emphasized the emotional strain placed on the victims as the case unfolded, including demands that could push victims toward mental health challenges and stress reactions.
Throughout the investigation, several victims required psychological support to cope with anxiety, sleep disturbances, and other trauma effects. The emotional and psychological toll on those affected highlighted the lasting impact of online exploitation and the need for ongoing support services for survivors. On April 18, 2023, the cyberstalking suspect was arrested in collaboration with the Seville Technological Crimes Group. The suspect was subsequently transferred to the Carmona Investigation Court, which issued provisional release on certain charges as the case progressed. The coordination between regional cybercrime units and traditional investigative teams demonstrated the efficacy of cross-jurisdictional collaboration in tackling complex online offenses against young people.
