Spain Executes International Cooperation Operation Tied to Terrorism Suspicions
Spanish police reports detail a bailment of police activity in Benahavís, Málaga, connected to international terrorism investigations. The operation targeted a person linked to a jihadist attack in Belgium, with serious implications for cross-border crime networks. The individual detained in Spain appeared before the National Court and was remanded in custody during the proceedings.
National Police statements confirm that the detainee held an active International Arrest and Extradition Warrant issued by Belgian authorities for offenses including drug trafficking, arms smuggling, money laundering, and membership in a criminal organization. At the time of the arrest, the individual was found carrying forged documents.
The detainee—described as a Belgian national with Moroccan citizenship—was transferred to the Central Court of Investigation at the National Court on the morning of the arrest, where the court ordered detention during the investigation.
The police operation involved officers from the General Information Commissariat and the Information Brigades of Madrid and Málaga, with support from the National Intelligence Center. The case was coordinated by the National Court Prosecutor’s Office and directed by the Central Instruction Court No. 2.
Authorities state that the operation resulted from ongoing police cooperation and information obtained from Belgian authorities. An inquiry has been initiated into a possible link between the Belgian attack suspect and a person residing in Spanish territory as part of the broader inquiry into the incident.
Initial findings indicate that the individuals under investigation are connected to criminal activity tied to organized crime networks. The investigation by Spanish police officials into the incident also included examining potential relationships with other individuals in the region as a part of the cross-border inquiry.
Following the inquiry, the detainee was placed in custody in Benahavís, Málaga. Investigators describe the suspect as someone evading justice through the use of counterfeit documents. A sting operation was executed to arrest the individual, with searches conducted at residence premises. Authorities seized documents, electronic devices, and a substantial amount of money. Ongoing analysis of the seized materials aims to clarify the nature of any bonds between those involved and to determine the scope of their criminal connections.
