In 2023 the work calendar again includes fourteen public holidays. Of these, eight are fixed national holidays, four are chosen by each autonomous community with one common to all Spain, and two days are local holidays selected by the city councils of each district.
irrevocable holidays
After the Official State Gazette published the schedule, eight unavoidable holidays were set for the 2023 calendar. These days are observed nationwide and are not interchangeable with other dates.

Changeable National Holidays
There are four days that belong to the autonomous communities and can be kept as holidays or replaced with other locally chosen days. Each community has the freedom to adjust its calendar within the national framework.
- 2 January: New Year observed on the second Monday when the first falls on Sunday — holiday in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castilla y León and Murcia.
- 6 January: Three Kings Day, Friday — celebrated nationwide.
- 6 April: Holy Thursday — observed by all autonomies except the Community of Catalonia and the Valencian Community.
The remaining days are variable celebrations determined by regional calendars. They reflect local history, patron saints, and regional customs.

- 25 July: Santiago Day, Tuesday — celebrated in Castilla y León, Galicia, Navarra and the Basque Country
- 10 April: Easter Monday — observed in the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Valencia

few long weekends
The year brings several long weekends or bridges. The first long weekend arrives with Good Friday on 7 April. The next long weekend follows with Labor Day on 1 May, which falls on a Monday. December 8, a Friday, creates a long weekend, and Christmas Day on 25 December, a Monday, also offers an extended break. In addition, Friday 6 January marks Three Kings Day and creates another extended weekend for many communities.
Some autonomous communities extend these weekends with extra days. For example, Holy Thursday and Easter Monday are commonly observed as holidays in several regions, adding more time off for residents and visitors alike.
