Sol y Mar Hoteles has received the Bioscore Sustainability Certificate again, confirming continued progress in sustainable practices across its two properties, the Gran Hotel Sol y Mar and the Suitopia Sol y Mar Suites Hotel. Both establishments have achieved Group A status, with an overall sustainability level of 80%.
The latest sustainability assessment required Sol y Mar Hoteles to provide documentation for key areas that Bioscore audited in partnership with OCA GLOBAL. These areas included CO2 emissions, energy resources, water resources, waste management, restoration, and social responsibility. Bioscore analyzed and verified the information blocks used to determine the certificate, reinforcing the credibility of the findings (Bioscore, 2024).
In recent years, Sol y Mar Hoteles has established a routine of producing periodic reports on the sustainability status of each accommodation unit. The process tracks energy and water consumption for every building and calculates the carbon footprint resulting from the hotels’ activities, aiming to minimize environmental impact (Bioscore, 2024).
Sol y Mar Hoteles aligns with major national and international hospitality groups that prioritize sustainability. Bioscore is recognized as a leading Spanish company specializing in hotel sustainability certification, helping chains demonstrate responsible practices (Bioscore, 2024).
Sara Rebollo, the Quality Director at Sol y Mar Hoteles, remarked: “We are proud to renew sustainability certification for two hotels and to exceed last year’s score, reaffirming our commitment to ongoing improvement.”
As part of its sustainability framework, Sol y Mar Hoteles offers guests premium products under the Campos de Ibiza brand, featuring Mediterranean flavors, a paraben-free formula, and 100% vegan soap. Packaging and dispensers are made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastics, underscoring the group’s dedication to circular economy principles (Bioscore, 2024).
For example, bottles distributed to guests are crafted from recycled materials and are fully recyclable, sourced through the Auara program. Each Auara bottle is designed to deliver nine liters of drinking water in developing regions, illustrating a tangible social impact commitment as part of the sustainability strategy (Auara partnership details, 2024).
Sol y Mar Hoteles views quality and sustainability as complementary pillars in its management philosophy. The organization emphasizes responsible sourcing, waste reduction, and transparent reporting as core practices that bolster guest satisfaction and long-term resilience.
