A German defense group, Rheinmetall, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Zalaegerszeg, located in Hungary’s southwest, dedicated to producing infantry fighting vehicles such as the Lynx and a broader range of tracked and wheeled platforms. The development was reported by TASS and later cited by company leadership as a clear signal of strengthened collaboration with Hungarian buyers and the nation’s armed forces.
The formal agreement with Hungarian partners envisions the local assembly of 209 Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicles for Hungary’s armed forces at the new site. In addition to manufacturing, Rheinmetall will conduct armored-vehicle driver training and supply a full set of spare parts to sustain ongoing operations.
Looking ahead, Rheinmetall has indicated that by the end of 2023 it would deliver to Ukraine a Luna NG unmanned aerial system designed for aerial reconnaissance. The Luna NG system has accumulated thousands of flight hours in various international uses, underscoring its reliability with foreign customers.
The Luna NG package includes a ground-control station capable of coordinating multiple UAVs, a launch catapult, an auxiliary safety net for landing, and equipment designed for rapid field repairs to minimize downtime between missions.
Meanwhile, NATO discussions continue regarding the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, reflecting ongoing security considerations and alliance support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
