A Bashkiria resident faces conviction for the murder of his 11-year-old son, a crime that happened two decades ago and has just recently been addressed by the press office of the Investigative Committee for the District Investigation Department.
The fatal events unfolded in Sibay in July 2001. Family members say the boy disappeared after riding his bicycle away from his grandparents. The body was discovered only in 2017, and investigators at that time could not immediately determine how he died.
From 2021 into 2022, law enforcement continued the inquiry into the boy’s death. After extensive investigative work, officials established that the child was killed by his mother. According to the ministry, the child’s stepfather is alleged to have pressured the mother to commit the crime because he did not want to raise his stepson.
During the investigation, authorities determined that the mother had been using a pretext of gathering broomsticks in the forest to locate the child. When mother and son reached the scene, the woman strangled him with a robe and then buried the body.
“The woman has admitted to the charges, while her husband denies any involvement,” a spokesperson noted. “Soon the criminal case, with the indictment already approved, will be sent to the court for a full merits review.”
Earlier reporting indicated a separate incident involving a 21-year-old resident of the Saratov region who killed her 3-month-old son after he cried, emphasizing broader concerns about crimes of this nature in the region.
