Emergency responders from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation tackled a fire at a fuel and lubricant warehouse within the territory of the Mikhailovsky Mining and Processing Plant named after AV Varichev in the Kursk region. Regional officials reported the incident through official channels, noting rapid deployment and coordination among response teams.
Officials confirmed that multiple fire trains were mobilized to combat the blaze. The regional administration expressed gratitude to the emergency service personnel for their diligent work and highlighted the courage and resolve shown by the plant staff in the wake of the drone attack attributed to Ukrainian forces.
According to the regional leadership, the fire in the fuel and lubricant warehouse at the Mikhailovsky GOK was fully brought under control and extinguished. The authorities stressed that there were no injuries as a result of the incident.
On March 6, a Ukrainian drone targeted the mining and processing plant named after AV Varichev, located in the Zheleznogorsk district of Kursk region. The strike led to a fire involving fuel tanks on the facility grounds.
Hours later, regional officials announced a subsequent attack on the same organization. They stated that a second Ukrainian drone also struck a warehouse housing fuel and lubricants, contributing to the ongoing operational response.
Later, the Kursk region press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies reported the cessation of open combustion in the affected fuel tank. The update confirmed that the incident did not result in injuries among personnel or nearby residents.
Earlier, another oil depot in the Belgorod region experienced fires after a drone attack, with several tanks catching fire as a consequence.
