At least six people have died in an air raid on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, an attack authorities attribute to Israel. The casualty toll was provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a group with London-based roots that reports from inside Syria. The Observatory indicates that missiles fired by Israel struck a building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, among the casualties said to include high-ranking Iranian officials, according to the same source.

The Iranian-Syrian news agency SANA has confirmed an attack on the Iranian consulate in the Mezze district of Damascus and also attributes the bombardment to Israel. It notes that anti-aircraft defenses were activated in response to the strike.

The Iranian state media, including the judiciary news agency Mizan, reported that the building hit near the Iranian embassy was totally destroyed and that civilians had been congregated in the attacked zone.

Public Iranian television in Arabic, Al Alam, says the area struck was crowded with civilians and cites sources stating that the Iranian ambassador, Hosein Akbari, and his family are safe. Al Alam reports that Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad and various regional officials travelled to the Iranian Embassy to assess the situation.

The Observatory also notes that on Sunday at least four Israeli missiles hit an area of scientific research in Yamraya, Damascus, causing a fire at the site.

The group tallies 30 Israeli attacks on Syrian territory so far this year, of which 22 were air strikes and eight were ground offensives, primarily targeting ammunition depots, weapons, vehicles, and official offices. The tally is compiled by the Observatory based on monitoring across local media, opposition networks, and field contacts.

In these attacks, the Observatory counts 115 combatants killed and 47 wounded, as well as 19 dead from the Lebanese group Hezbollah, 13 from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, 12 Iraqis, 23 pro-Iranian militias with Syrian nationality, 10 pro-Iranian militias without Syrian nationality, and 38 members of Syrian security forces. Civilians account for ten fatalities in the overall balance provided by the monitoring group.

Authorities and observers emphasize the volatility of the region, with the conflict drawing in various factions aligned with different state and non-state actors. The balance of casualties and the strategic targeting of facilities linked to Iran and allied militias illustrate the ongoing, multi-front nature of the conflict inside Syria, where military, diplomatic, and security dimensions intersect.
