Renfe has announced a sale open this week, offering substantial discounts for young travelers aged 18 to 30. The promotion runs this summer, extending from mid June through mid September, and applies to a wide range of Renfe services. The initiative is designed to make rail travel more accessible for students and early career travelers across Spain and Europe, including international routes that Renfe operates or coordinates with partner networks.
The offer includes a significant price reduction on several train categories such as AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Intercity, and Euromed. The discount rates vary by service, with reductions up to 50 percent on certain ticket types and a maximum saving limit of currency in euros per ticket. For other ticket options, specific services receive a 90 percent discount or a 30 euro cap, depending on the train class and route. A notable feature is a 50 percent concession for single Avant tickets, while remaining services such as Media Distancia and Ancho Métrico networks enjoy the higher percent reductions where applicable. These discounts are designed to encourage more frequent travel during the summer period and to broaden access to high-speed and regional rail options.
Furthermore, when the sale is processed through Renfe, a 50 percent reduction may also apply to the Interrail Global Flexible pass within the 2 month window of travel. The discounted tickets are expected to be available on Renfe’s official website in the near future. This arrangement aligns with broader European mobility goals to support affordable rail travel for young people who wish to explore multiple destinations during the summer months.
The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda published decisions on June 1 that set the rules for selling and using these discounted bus and train tickets. The policy aims to ease transportation for young travelers in Spain and across Europe during the summer season. Eligible participants include individuals born between 1993 and 2005 who are either residents of Spain or legally residing within the country with EU citizenship. To participate, applicants must register a verification form on the Mitma platform to confirm eligibility. The process may yield a personal, non transferable registration code that is used to purchase Interrail passes and discounted tickets.
Registration began on June 1 and requires completion at least 24 hours before the first ticket purchase. Prospective travelers can enroll using secure electronic certificates or by providing personal details such as full name as it appears on a government document, date of birth, and the document number along with validity. The registration flow supports EU citizen status and nationality verification, and the resulting code is delivered by text message or email. The validity period spans the entire summer window from June 15 to September 15. In addition to government backed discounts, Renfe offers members of the Más Renfe loyalty program a potential free trip for those who travel at least twice in the season, subject to program terms.
For travelers participating in the program, those who complete both qualifying trips within the period may be eligible for a full discount code toward future ticket purchases within the following three months. This package of benefits reflects a coordinated effort to increase rail use among young people and to foster seamless travel experiences through a combination of national and European rail incentives.
