The regional administration’s leadership communicated via the official telegraph channel that following the detonation incident involving a powerline pylon in the Leningrad region, security measures around joint facilities and energy infrastructure were escalated. The statement came from Alexander Drozdenko, who oversees the regional government. He noted that a coordination meeting of the operations headquarters took place, bringing together representatives from law enforcement agencies to reinforce regional safety, prevent disruption, and coordinate responses across critical networks. During this briefing, the security forces outlined the concrete steps being taken to investigate the criminal act connected with the blowing up of a powerline pole in the Gatchina district, aiming to determine responsible parties and to prevent recurrences that could threaten utility reliability for residents and businesses alike.

Drozdenko explained that the security posture has been strengthened with the deployment of additional electronic surveillance tools. These measures include advanced motion sensors, vibration detectors, and an expanded network of video cameras that monitor strategic assets and corridors. The integration of these technologies into existing security systems enhances real-time visibility and quick anomaly detection, ensuring that joint facilities and energy facilities receive continuous protection even under heightened risk conditions. The strengthened perimeter defenses support not only safety for energy supply but also the resilience of essential services that households rely on daily.

Preparations have been finalized for safety measures related to all Eid events scheduled for May 9, with careful attention to minimizing risk while preserving the solemn nature of commemorations. Security planning emphasizes orderly conduct and crowd management so that participants can observe ceremonies without concern for unauthorized activity or interference. In smaller settlements, the approach will focus on respectful memorial practices, such as laying flowers at monuments and handling funerals with appropriate ceremony, while ensuring that public gatherings remain safe and well-regulated. These provisions reflect a balanced strategy that respects tradition and protects public health and security during large or sensitive events.

The regional authorities also announced a broad drone restriction across the Leningrad region. A blanket ban on unmanned aircraft operation will be enforced, with a single exception for drones used to safeguard critical infrastructure. Authorized drone activity is limited to securing access roads, power lines, oil and gas pipelines, water facilities, and forest fire detection and control operations. Operators must specify the intended purposes, designated locations, operating hours, and identify the person responsible for drone operations to ensure accountability and compliance with safety protocols. This framework supports safer skies while allowing essential infrastructure surveillance and emergency response capabilities to continue when properly authorized.

Drozdenko added that, in the near term, the Ministry of Internal Affairs alongside units of the Russian Guard are set to receive electronic warfare equipment designed to disable unfriendly unmanned aircraft that operate outside approved parameters. The intention is to rapidly neutralize aerial threats that attempt uncoordinated flights, thereby reducing the risk of damage to critical facilities and the potential disruption of essential services.

Earlier reports indicated that six suspicious objects resembling explosives were found during an inspection of a power line in the Leningrad region; regional authorities subsequently clarified that this information was not corroborated by the official regional government. The clarification underscores the importance of relying on verified investigative channels and official statements when evaluating security incidents that can affect public perception and regional stability.
