She heard calls for a weapon and feared that staying would be fatal, so she attempted to escape.
The Zamoran woman barely reached the building’s second exit to the street. Their plan to flee from the first floor was thwarted by the rapist, who carried the initials JMP. He grabbed her by the hair, forcing her to the ground, and kicked her in the face while pressing the knife against her. She recalls thinking that she was about to die if she did not act. He kept striking as she spoke aloud to finish it now and escape his grip.

As the victim realized the extent of the blood loss suffered by her emotional partner, he ordered her to rise, move to the living room, and then forced her back to the floor. From there, he brought her back to his home, a place linked to a three-year relationship after his release from a prior prison sentence for rape. In the dining room she found herself at his mercy, half naked and barefoot, while he returned from a late bar visit. The accused appeared caring at first, but the conversation quickly shifted to fear and threats, feeding a persistent sense that death lurked nearby if she fell to the ground.
“Please help me, it will kill me”
The prosecutor described the assault as an attempt to create a moment of respite for the victim, while the accused reportedly cleaned blood from the entryway and attempted to remove traces of the violence from the portal area. He did not manage to erase all remnants of the struggle or the damage to the walls and elevator.
Fortunately, the victim found the strength to flee the apartment despite her severe injuries. She moved through the building floors, finally reaching the fifth floor where a neighbor opened the door. She pleaded for help, saying the words that echoed in her mind: it is killing me.
Neighbors and the victim’s mother testified that she arrived naked and barefoot, wrapped in a bathrobe and covered in blood, her hair disheveled. The mother later identified the victim as a neighbor’s daughter. The testimony underscored the urgency of the danger she faced and the terror of realizing she could be killed if the assault continued.

The Attorney General’s Office asked the three judges to sentence the defendant to a lengthy prison term. Approximately nine and a half years were requested for the attempted murder charges, plus two additional years for a cluster of gender violence offenses, including past abuse that involved striking her head, pulling her hair, and grabbing her neck with enough force to threaten her life.
The defendant defended his final assault by claiming a loss of control. He surrendered to the police, admitting responsibility and offering the customary gesture of surrender. His attorney argued for a lighter sentence, asserting that the defendant had not caused permanent injuries and had already accepted responsibility by returning to face the consequences.
The prosecutor urged a stringent punishment to reflect the aggressor’s prior pattern of violence toward this woman and others. The narrative emphasized that the defendant repeatedly ignored police calls for help and continued to threaten the victim with fatal harm, showing a persistent willingness to kill. The prosecutor requested serious penalties to match the severity of the injuries and the ongoing threat to the victim’s life.
The victim’s counsel sought the same 10-year term for the attempted murder charge, along with a 5-kilometer restraining order and compensation to reflect the harm suffered. The outcome rested on the court’s assessment of danger, accountability, and the need for protective measures for the survivor.
