A rabies quarantine is in place in Gribskoye village, Blagoveshchensk district, Amur region, following a fox attack on a dog and a child. Provincial veterinary authorities confirmed the measure after confirming rabies in a wild fox that entered a resident’s property and attacked a pet.
The official release notes that a dangerous disease was detected in the fox, which entered the yard and attacked a dog. A local boy stepped in to protect the animal, but the fox attacked him as well.
The boy was promptly transported to a medical facility where treatment was provided. Subsequent laboratory testing verified the presence of rabies in the fox, prompting immediate public health actions.
At present, veterinary teams are surveying nearby gardens as part of the outbreak response and are revaccinating animals against rabies where needed to prevent further transmission.
In a separate global incident from June, a five-year-old girl in Indonesia died after being bitten by a pet dog. The boy who was bitten died about a month later. The incident occurred while the boy played in his garden with his pet, and during a moment of play the dog clenched the boy’s hand and caused deep lacerations. Local guardians treated the wound with soap but did not seek professional medical care, which increased the risk of complications.
Earlier in another report, a student in Moscow reportedly consumed antidepressants with an energy drink before arriving at the hospital on exam day.
