The Progress MS-22 cargo spacecraft has separated from the Zvezda module and departed the International Space Station, according to a report from the state space corporation Roscosmos.

Roscosmos confirmed that Progress MS-22 undocked from the ISS and moved away, completing its station duties after a stay of more than six months.

In the hours that followed, officials indicated that the remaining propulsion would be used to reduce the spacecraft’s orbit, directing it to reenter Earth’s atmosphere. The controlled reentry is expected to shed unburned fragments over the designated uninhabited region of the South Pacific, minimizing risks to populated areas.

Planning to take over the station’s logistics role, Roscosmos announced that the new Progress MS-24 spacecraft will assume the berth on the ISS. Its launch is scheduled for August 23.

Prior to Progress MS-22, the team documented the mission and ensured a collision-free departure from the station environment, avoiding space debris issues.

Earlier, in May 2022, the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle carried Progress MS-23 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome to support ISS operations.

Roscosmos has also reported on other spaceflight events in recent years, including updates about lunar missions and the status of planetary probes.
