Seven individuals were detained in a nationwide police operation that targeted a criminal network active in Vega Baja. The group, comprised of Colombian and Spanish nationals aged 28 to 58, faces charges including belonging to a criminal organization, drug trafficking, and possession of illegal weapons. They were placed under the care of the Torrevieja Investigative Court, with detention ordered for three of the suspects.
four months
The National Police reported that the probe spanned four months and uncovered a two-tier network responsible for every stage of the drug pipeline. From smuggling and processing to storage and final distribution, the organization controlled the flow of cocaine across the province, with the highest activity concentrated in Vega Baja.
cocaine and laboratories
During the operation, investigators observed two residential properties functioning as illicit laboratories. These sites were used to prepare cocaine, which was then stored prior to distribution by other members of the group.
Officials noted that the organization was well structured, with clear roles for buyers, handlers, and distributors. The members reportedly maintained a high standard of living, consistent with the profits generated by the trafficking network, according to police sources.
The operation intensified once authorities witnessed a narcotics transaction of considerable scale. Two suspects were arrested, and authorities seized 800 grams of cocaine alongside 33,700 euros in cash.
arrests and weapons
Following these arrests, a specialized police operation was launched that culminated in the apprehension of all members of the organization. Five residences in Almoradí, Los Montesinos, Rojales, and Alicante were searched, yielding an additional 1,300 grams of cocaine, 63,000 euros in cash, 13 counterfeit 500 euro notes, three 9 mm pistols with altered serial numbers, and related ammunition. Vehicles and equipment used for drug production and processing were also seized.
The investigation was led by the prosecutor’s office and involved the National Police Narcotics Group in Elche, the Organized Crime Intervention Group (Greco Levante), and the Illegal Vehicle Smuggling Group within the Alicante Judicial Police Brigade.
