Playoffnations, a startup rooted in Alicante, recently closed a one-million-euro funding round led by Angels, with participation from Juan Roig’s investment firm and other prominent backers including Tom Horsey and Albert Botet. This milestone underpins the company’s strategy to broaden its footprint in Latin America and the United States while deepening its presence in Spain and investing in both people and technology.

From its inception, Playoffnations has described a shift in how brands connect with audiences, driven by rapid advances in technology, evolving consumer behaviors, and the rise of social networks as powerful communication channels. This insight gave rise to a platform that blends tech, gamification, and creative storytelling, designed to help brands break through media disruption, achieve meaningful market entry, deliver high performance, and generate lasting impact.

Several notable brands have partnered with Playoffnations on transformative virtual initiatives. Pringles and Krave, which belong to the Kellogg Group, were guided into virtual spaces and even played a role in creating the first metaverse amusement concept. Springfield, associated with the Tedam Group, launched its online store alongside a digital fashion collection. ChocoFlakes from Adam Foods developed an immersive game that quickly captured widespread attention. Mediamarkt reshaped an in-game ecosystem into a sustainable business model, demonstrating how playful, interactive experiences can extend a brand’s reach across audiences and channels.

Marc Pérez Miralles, the chief executive of Playoffnations, explains that the new investment accelerates growth and reinforces leadership in emerging advertising channels, especially within the metaverse, a frontier the company helped pioneer. The funding is anticipated to enable continued leadership in this space and to support expansion through strategic collaborations within the Marina de Empresas ecosystem, Lanzadera, and related academic and investment networks. Pérez Miralles describes the partnership as an exceptionally well-aligned fit for advancing the company’s mission and vision.

Pepe Peris, chief executive of Angels, notes that the rapid evolution of digital communication channels has opened doors that Playoffnations has identified and interpreted to position brands with products and services ahead of growing audiences. The collaboration signals ongoing momentum in leveraging new media to shape contemporary advertising approaches and outcomes.

Playoffnations operates as a technology company that connects brands with new generations through unconventional means. Founded in 2019, its objective has been to take brands to places unreachable by traditional media. The firm combines technology, gamification, and creativity to harness media disruption and evolving audiences, aiming to influence the current advertising landscape and usher in a sustained new era of brand storytelling and engagement.

In collaboration with Angels, EDEM Escuela de Empresarios, and the venture incubator Lanzadera, Marina de Empresas stands as a key hub for entrepreneurship. This initiative, championed by Juan Roig, owner of Mercadona, based in Valencia, seeks to provide education, mentorship, and financing to today’s entrepreneurs and the leaders of tomorrow, with a focus on wealth creation, job growth, and a culture of enterprise across Spain and beyond.

Angels aims to back entrepreneurial leaders who build sustainable companies and connect them with a diverse investor network. Based at Marina de Empresas, the organization operates a management model grounded in total quality, a robust communication network, and the essential infrastructure to support founders. Since its inception, Angels has invested over 35 million euros across dozens of ventures and continues to back a broad slate of investment companies.
