Pinky, a small chihuahua with a fierce heart, lost her life while defending her family during a home intrusion in Nayarit, Compostela, Mexico. When a burglar was spotted near the residence, Pinky sprang into action and confronted the intruder. In the ensuing conflict, the thief attacked the brave dog with a garden stake, leaving Pinky gravely injured. After weeks of a determined fight, the family sadly announced that Pinky had passed away.
The dog’s courageous stance inspired the owners to create a Facebook page titled “Survivor Warrior Pinky.” Through this page, they kept supporters and those interested in the dog’s rescue updated on Pinky’s status and the ongoing efforts by the family and veterinarians. On Thursday, February 23, a statement was released conveying the heartbreaking news of Pinky’s departure from this world.
The veterinary team reported that Pinky, despite her small size, faced the assault with remarkable bravery. She stood guard over her home and family, meeting a brutal attack head-on. The family and veterinarians described her as a tiny warrior whose resolve left a lasting impression on everyone who followed her story.
During the break-in, thieves entered the home and encountered Pinky at the doorway. The dog barked to alert the household, and one of the assailants struck back with a garden rake. Pinky, who would have turned three in April, fought to protect her owners and their home in the hours that followed. By the time dawn arrived, the family was left to confront an unimaginable loss while sharing Pinky’s continued bravery with those who cared.
Operation
Responding to the emergency, the veterinary team at the Veterinary Animal Center Pet Shop moved quickly to stabilize Pinky. Surgeons conducted a careful procedure to remove the weapon and address the injuries. The operation extended over more than two hours and required meticulous care to prevent infection and to support her recovery. The garden rake had penetrated Pinky’s body, but did not damage any of her vital organs, a fact the medical team acknowledged with cautious optimism.
Vets explained that one prong of the fork-like tool pierced from the spine toward the pelvic area, while another prong pierced through the leg. Fortunately, neither punctured any essential organs. After the surgery, the medical team anticipated a challenging recovery due to the severity of the injuries and the risk of infection. Pinky’s resilience, however, continued to be a beacon for her family as they navigated the difficult days following the incident.
