Ouigo, the low-fare operator of high-speed trains in Spain, is expanding access to fast travel with a major sale. Nearly 2.4 million new tickets for high-speed journeys went on sale at 11:00 am this Monday, with availability running from December 11 to June 11, 2023. The objective is clear: bring high-speed rail within reach for more travelers across the country. Tickets can be booked on the Ouigo website or through the Ouigo app, a move the company confirms as part of widening its digital footprint and ticketing channels. (Source: Ouigo press materials)

In total, Ouigo is offering 1.66 million seats on the Madrid-Zaragoza-Tarragona-Barcelona corridor, with 64,134 seats allocated each week. A second major tranche adds 740,000 seats on the Madrid-Valencia route, to be released on Friday, October 7. This signals a carefully staged scale-up designed to maximize weekly capacity while maintaining affordable pricing. (Source: Ouigo press materials)

The new line represents a weekly block of 35,630 seats and aligns with Ouigo’s plan to grow to five daily frequencies, equating to ten trips per day on the network. These figures underscore the brand’s commitment to increased service density and broader geographic coverage while preserving low-ticket economics for travelers.

Federico Pareja, Commercial and Marketing Director of Ouigo, framed the expansion by recalling the initial Spain entry. He noted that the aim was to “open high-speed doors to all pockets.” As the network scales, roughly 100,000 passengers weekly are expected to benefit from the lower fares, a significant increase that roughly triples the level of supply available at the outset of operations. Since its Spain launch on May 10, 2021, Ouigo has carried more than 2.9 million passengers on its primary Madrid to Barcelona service. The Zaragoza leg alone has seen more than 567,000 travelers, while the Tarragona interchange has recorded over 92,000 passenger movements. These ridership numbers illustrate the brand’s early momentum and the demand for affordable, high-speed travel across major city pairs. (Source: Ouigo press materials)

Looking ahead, Ouigo’s strategic map includes a Madrid to Alicante connection with a stop in Albacete by 2023. The proposed route would feature two daily frequencies, adding four new daily services to the network. The plan also calls for movements into Andalusia, targeting five round trips daily to Seville, Malaga, and Cordoba. The overall strategy centers on weaving high-speed links into the broader Spanish map, expanding both reach and frequency while maintaining competitive pricing. (Source: Ouigo press materials)
