Alicante based Next Electric Motors has announced a strategic alliance with China Juneng Motorcycle Technology to advance the development and production of new electric motorcycle models. The collaboration, disclosed by the companies themselves, is expected to broaden the range with high performance and more powerful electric two-wheelers.

Unlike brands that merely market existing lines, the Spanish startup founders Anthony Navarro and Xulei Xu are driving design and engineering. Since its 2017 inception, the team has steadily expanded its vehicle lineup. The alliance will channel the resources of the Chinese partner into Next Electric Motors, accelerating prototyping and moving ideas into production. Tools such as 3D printers and scanners, alongside testing laboratories, will be leveraged as in-house capabilities for a company of this scale in the two-wheeler sector. The Alicante team explains that these resources enable faster iteration and optimized product validation.

Next Electric Motors notes that such agreements are common in the two-wheel industry, aiming to exploit synergies by jointly developing vehicles. They point to partnerships like LiveWire, Harley-Davidson’s electric division, with Kymco on electric motorcycle development and collaborations between Zero Motorcycles and Polaris for electric vehicle production as examples of industry collaboration. This new partnership underscores the sector’s move toward shared development and scaling of innovative mobility solutions. The founders of the Alicante company were photographed at the premises of their Chinese partner during the announcement. The image underlines the hands-on nature of the collaboration and the international scope of the venture.

The next section details growth and strategy. The Alicante firm earned a foothold in the market through a combination of strong value propositions, reliable after-sales service, and a clear internationalization plan. It currently maintains a footprint in eleven European markets and offers four main models, including the NX1 mopeds, the Mojito and NXPlus scooters, and the NX2, a high-performance scooter set to launch after the fall season. Pre-orders for the NX2 were coordinated through the company’s online presence.

Electric movement at full speed

Juneng Motorcycle Technology, established in 2005, brings deep experience in the design and manufacture of electric motorcycles. The company operates more than one hundred thousand square meters of assembly facilities in multiple locations and has an annual production capacity exceeding three hundred thousand units. With the new agreement in place, the Spanish firm will strengthen its research and development capabilities, while Next Electric Motors expands its product catalog to encompass electric motorcycles across several categories.

The collaboration positions Next Electric Motors for accelerated growth through enhanced engineering resources and broader market reach, as the company continues to push into new segments and reinforce its R&D pipeline.

Momentum from Elche to global ambitions

In addition to strategic partnerships, the Alicante team has pursued substantial funding to support its growth. Earlier in the year, the company completed a significant investment round from a Basque family office, reinforcing its financial runway. It also secured an early-stage funding round in late 2020, laying a solid foundation for expansion. The current agreement with Juneng Motorcycle Technology is viewed as a catalyst to further scale production, expand testing capabilities, and broaden the product catalog available to customers.

As the alliance progresses, Next Electric Motors and Juneng Motorcycle Technology will explore additional joint ventures, including advanced materials testing, battery integration, and next-generation propulsion systems, all aimed at delivering practical and high-performance electric motorcycles to riders in North America and beyond.
