A major educational expansion is underway in Lobnya, with plans to open a school and a kindergarten in the Katyushki micro-region by September 1, 2024. The district’s press service confirmed that the Governor of the Moscow Region, Andrey Vorobyov, is overseeing how the construction is progressing to ensure timelines are met and quality standards are upheld.
During a site visit to Lobnya, the governor noted the many questions residents have concerning the development. He toured one of the largest school facilities currently under construction in the Moscow region and highlighted the scale of the project. There are about five similar large educational complexes planned across the region, each designed to be among the most modern in its class. Adjacent to the school, a kindergarten capable of serving 330 children is being prepared to support the growing demand for early childhood education in the area.
The governor remarked that contractors had previously focused on residential housing but had not prioritized schooling and daycare infrastructure. This misalignment is being corrected to address the significant need expressed by families with children, including students who experience long travel times and the burden of a second shift in some facilities.
Estimated to serve approximately 15,000 residents in the Katyushki micro-region, the forthcoming school is planned to become one of the region’s largest educational institutions. Constructed under the regional state program, the new facility will support a total capacity of around 2,200 students, enabling the consolidation of several existing schools and providing quicker access to education for local families.
The school campus will include a primary school block with a capacity for 800 pupils, featuring 33 classrooms, two gymnasiums, playrooms, and sleeping spaces for long-day groups. In addition, a comprehensive secondary school component will cater to around 1,400 students and include 80 classrooms, two gymnasiums, as well as spaces for meetings, a library, a health block, and a cafeteria. The site will also offer outdoor sports grounds and parking facilities designed to accommodate parents who arrive for drop-off and pick-up times.
Simultaneously, progress is being made on the northern portion of Katyushki to accommodate a three-story kindergarten that will serve 330 children. Once open, the facility will welcome children from across the micro-region, helping to ease congestion at existing preschools and improve early education access. Construction has already progressed to the point where the kindergarten is anticipated to begin operating by September 2024.
The new kindergarten is designed to support 14 groups of children aged from 1.5 to 7 years. The project outlines include dedicated spaces for sports and music, a meal service area, medical and methodological rooms, and shaded play areas. The outdoor spaces will feature canopy-covered areas, enhanced playgrounds, and safe recreational zones to encourage active learning while ensuring child safety.
