New contract in Alicante ties a local AI firm to United Nations initiatives
Alicante based AI company 1MillionBot has secured a notable contract with the United Nations, supported by an initiative led by Andres Pedreno and guided by Celia Sanchez. The goal is to deploy a chatbot created for the international organization to report and inform on family planning topics in Nigeria, a development confirmed by company sources.
The engagement marks the fourth collaboration between 1MillionBot and the UN. Previously, the firm developed a covid information bot for Ecuador, a lifestyle chatbot for Kuwait, and a platform assisting gender violence victims in Central America.
For the Nigerian deployment, the assistant will be a text based chatbot designed to answer questions and provide information as part of a UNFPA initiative, the United Nations agency focused on sexual and reproductive health. The project will use WhatsApp to reach users, leveraging the strong adoption of mobile messaging in the country, according to the operations director of 1MillionBot, Rachel Pomares.
Users will gain access to reliable information on family planning, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections. The system will also ease connections to healthcare professionals who can refer users to local clinics.
This collaboration with the United Nations demonstrates 1MillionBot’s growing footprint in international health tech and public sector solutions, expanding access to essential health information via popular mobile platforms.

The Nigerian context mirrors a broader trend where birthrates remain high and health advances have reduced maternal mortality yet information gaps persist about contraception and reproductive health, especially among adolescents. 1MillionBot’s footprint includes voice and text based services, with Pomares noting that English will serve as the primary language for the Nigerian market due to its widespread use as a lingua franca.
The operations head highlights that United Nations contracts serve as a crucial catalyst for international expansion, opening doors to public sector projects across multiple regions.
New projects
The UN collaboration is part of a broader slate of 14 projects that 1MillionBot has closed in the last three months. The company operates in three internal segments: a university focused division, a Software as a Service arm offering virtual assistants on a subscription model, and a consulting division for specialized services. Offerings include a web converter, a design platform, an autonomous and streamlined chatbot with a simplified dashboard, and thematic assistants for organizations such as restaurants and professionals.
The firm also provides third party consulting and services, ensuring a full spectrum of AI driven solutions for education, commerce, and public administration.

The latest projects include assistants developed with the Catalunya Oberta consortium in conjunction with the Catalan Generalitat, as well as tools for the city councils of that autonomous community. Additional work supports the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Seville, and the University of León. The aim is to deliver practical, scalable AI assistants across higher education and public institutions.
