National Police continue their investigation to clarify an alleged rape that occurred last Thursday. The victim contends she was drugged at a hotel near Santa Catalina park in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Three men were arrested alongside the 21-year-old woman, and they remained at the hotel for about two hours, until they left for reception half-naked and vomiting. This period corresponds with the duration of actions associated with certain chemical agents used to subdue victims, such as scopolamine or Burundanga.
In the afternoon of the same day, investigators from the Science Police inspected the room where the individuals involved are alleged to have assaulted the young woman. They conducted a thorough examination in an effort to gather evidence and help establish what happened. The investigation, led by the Family and Women’s Care Unit (Ufam), also anticipates blood and urine tests on the victim to determine whether she was drugged prior to the assault.
The events date back to last Thursday morning, not Wednesday night as previously reported. The young woman left her home in the Puerto area and headed toward Las Canteras beach, where she encountered three men: two Germans, aged 48 and 24, and an Italian, 28, who were temporarily in the capital of Gran Canaria to work for a port company. They allegedly offered her a drink, which she initially declined, but pressure and social expectations allegedly led her to accept. It is claimed that she later consumed substances with them.
Around 11:30 am, hotel surveillance cameras captured three men and a woman entering the hotel and proceeding to one of the rooms, where the assault reportedly lasted about two hours. At 1:40 pm, the young woman exited the elevator, half-naked, dazed, and vomiting, asking hotel staff for help. Given her obvious distress and the claim that she had been drugged and assaulted, reception staff escorted her to a private room to address the situation.
The responding units promptly reported the incident to police teams. When authorities entered the rooms, the three men were still nude in their respective spaces. Based on the victim’s account, officers detained the suspects for alleged sexual assault with aggravating circumstances. The arrestees were transferred to the Northern Police Station in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for questioning. According to sources, the suspects denied the accusations, asserting that all encounters were consensual.
The young woman, removed by ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), was taken to a hospital in the capital for treatment. Biological evidence was collected to determine whether any psychotropic substances were introduced into the drinks. If present, consumption of such substances could lead to incapacitation. Test results are expected to be forwarded to the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, though the timelines for analysis can be extended. Experts note that the body may metabolize and expel certain substances quickly, which can complicate detection depending on timing and individual factors.
The two-hour duration of the guests’ stay at the hotel aligns with the known effects of commonly discussed substances such as Burundanga or scopolamine, which are sometimes misused to render a person unconscious. These agents are often delivered in powder form added to drinks without the victim’s knowledge, enabling wrongdoing to proceed unchecked.
The National Police plan to bring the three detainees before a court later today. If convicted, the suspects face sentences ranging from seven to fifteen years for sexual assault, with the potential aggravating factor of rape. The hotel involved in the incident is actively cooperating with investigators to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
