National police authorities in Gran Canaria detained a man suspected of sexually abusing minors. The suspect allegedly acted as a private tutor in the home of two siblings, and the younger child disclosed the abuse to his family. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about safeguarding children in private education settings and the vigilance required of caregivers and authorities.
On February 7, a father of two children contacted police to report a private English and German tutor who had been employed to teach the children since last November. The father stated that his younger son had warned him about possible sexual acts by the instructor involving the younger girl, prompting a formal complaint and a broader inquiry into the tutor’s conduct.
Following the investigation, officers identified the suspect and arrested him in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The individual was then transferred to the competent judicial authority for further proceedings, as investigators continued to gather evidence and determine the extent of the alleged offenses.
The investigation remains active. The Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) stated that additional victims could emerge and reiterated the importance of reporting suspicious behavior promptly to authorities to protect children and ensure a thorough probe.
Authorities emphasized ongoing collaboration with social services and judicial bodies to support affected families and to assess any broader risk to the community while the case progresses through the legal system.
