Roskosmos and NASA have agreed that an American astronaut will undertake an additional mission to the International Space Station using the Russian Soyuz MS spacecraft. This was reported by Interfax, citing Sergey Krikalev, the director general of the agency overseeing manned programs.
The agency notes the flight will occur within the framework of the cross-flights agreement between Roscosmos and NASA.
Krikalev said that one American astronaut still has two terms remaining on ISS duties and that an extra flight was added to compensate for time spent aboard the station.
He described the flight modification as a positive development that lends credibility to the overall timeline.
Earlier, SpaceNews reported that NASA expressed interest in continued cooperation with Roscosmos beyond 2028.
Joel Montalbano, NASA’s ISS program manager, stated that the United States, Canada, Japan, and Europe plan to continue working on the ISS through 2030.
Historically India has been cited as the fourth major participant in lunar power initiatives.
