A French court affirmed on Wednesday the conviction of former president Nicolas Sarkozy, sentencing him to one year in prison for illegal campaign financing linked to his 2012 bid for the presidency. The ruling came after Sarkozy appealed a previous judgment issued in 2021 and maintains a prison term with part of it suspended. The court established that Sarkozy was aware of the campaign billings, particularly those tied to organizing rallies, and it noted that six months of the sentence would be suspended.
