A National Police operation on Monday night led to the arrest of a man whose identity and age have not been disclosed. He is suspected of involvement in the death of a local resident, Francisco BA, whose body showed signs of violence at his home in Yecla, a town in Murcia. The suspect was held at the Yecla police station for questioning on Monday, and on Tuesday investigators searched his home, where they discovered another body: the victim was a woman, believed to be the suspect’s aunt, according to sources close to the investigation.
A man with a prior criminal record and suspected of drug use was brought to the Yecla Police Station for questioning by homicide investigators who were dispatched to the municipality to determine whether he played a part in the neighbor’s death. Initially, theft emerged as a potential motive, but investigators have explored additional possibilities, including the chance that Francisco may have known his killer before the incident. If it is confirmed that the aunt is the second person killed, the suspect would face charges for two homicides.
drug problems
Close sources note that the relationship between the aunt and nephew was strained, a tension intensified by the man’s drug addiction and possible attempts to steal money from his relative to fund his substance use.
According to those close to the case, Francisco BA was killed with two firearms taken from the scene, struck about the head with a blunt instrument, and then stabbed, with evidence suggesting a screwdriver was the instrument used in the fatal injuries.
Francisco BA lived alone on Algeciras Street, where his body was found. Neighbors described him as a quiet neighbor who did not cause trouble. Yet sources close to the investigation indicate he may have been targeted by someone who frequented the same area, a location associated with activity by drug users. As investigators examine whether the suspect knew Francis, the person believed to be responsible for the aunt’s death was taken into custody.
If the murder is confirmed, it would mark the fourth homicide in the Murcia region this year. The National Police have stated they are overseeing the investigation. The first case involved four suspects arrested for murdering a neighbor with a stabbing at a Lorca gas station.
The second case occurred the previous Sunday on a street in Murcia, where a man was found dead, covered in blood. An acquaintance is suspected of killing him during a dispute, and authorities hope to locate the suspect soon. The third case is the Yecla incident from last week.
