The Valencia chain emphasizes listening to its customers, aiming to reflect what shoppers want in every new product. Recently, a canned natural chicken product has joined the lineup, achieving strong daily sales of about 5,000 units.
Mercadona’s chicken product is a low-fat, high-protein option manufactured by Totaler Frinsa del Noroeste at their Ribera facility in A Coruña. It features only chicken breast with water and salt, preserving the natural nutritional properties of the meat as the company explains.

Looking at the nutrition facts per 100 grams reveals: energy 563 kJ / 133 kcal; fats 1.5 g with 0.5 g saturated fat; carbohydrates 0 g; protein 30 g; and salt 1.4 g. It is also gluten-free.

For example, a hearty lettuce salad layered with corn, chicken, avocado, cherry tomatoes, and crisp breadsticks is easy to assemble. Start with a base of fresh greens, add diced tomatoes, corn, and avocado cubes, then flake the natural chicken over the salad and finish with the breadsticks. Season to taste and serve.
Another simple dish is Pasta with chicken, cherries, garlic, and paprika.
- 200 g pasta
- 15 cherry tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 hot pepper
- 1 can natural chicken
- 1 tablespoon thyme
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- black pepper to taste
- grated cheese to taste (optional)
To prepare, boil salted water and cook the pasta slightly under the indicated time so the pasta finishes in the pan. Saute the garlic in extra virgin olive oil, then stir in tomato paste and red pepper. When the tomatoes start to color, add the cherry tomatoes and cook until they soften.
