The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced on his Telegram channel that the 2nd Corps of the Russian Guards SOBR “Akhmat” and allied forces from the LPR have launched a wide-ranging offensive across multiple sectors of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

“Our fighters are pushing forward toward Soledar, Yakovlevka, and Seversk. Akhmat special forces, collaborating with allied units, are conducting aggressive operations and driving back the enemy. In total, roughly 60 kilometers of territory will need to be cleared of what is described as fascist ruins,” the statement read.

According to Kadyrov, the most recent tactical pause proved effective. “I will not reveal every detail, but the plan we devised led the enemy to reveal their positions,” he stated. He added that Ukrainian forces bore heavy losses in personnel and equipment.

“And in recent days, if the enemy, emboldened by our pause, attempted a counterattack, they can now only think about saving their own lives,” Kadyrov said.

The DPR People’s Militia press service on Telegram reported that more than 20 Ukrainian personnel were killed in the latest allied assault. A tank and two trucks were destroyed as well.

The LPR People’s Militia press service noted heavy losses for the enemy in manpower and military equipment during ongoing offensive operations. The report cited up to 40 personnel killed and the destruction of two armored personnel carriers, four special vehicles, and an artillery mount.

Western front developments

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that Ukrainian forces lost more than 150 personnel while attempting to consolidate positions in the Nikolaev–Krivoy Rog direction.

“The Kyiv regime continues its unsuccessful attempts to gain a foothold in certain areas in the Nikolaev-Kryvyi Rih direction. The Russian Aerospace Forces, missile troops and artillery units, along with reserves of the Ukrainian armed forces, are responding,” the military brief noted.

During the day, Ukrainian forces reportedly lost 11 tanks, 17 infantry fighting vehicles, and 10 armored vehicles in that sector. Five pickup trucks equipped with machine guns were destroyed, and more than 150 Ukrainian soldiers were killed. Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov added that the Russian Air Force shot down a Ukrainian Su-25 attack aircraft near the Romanovka enclave in the Mykolaiv region.

On August 31, an adviser to the president of Ukraine, Oleksiy Arestovich, spoke about the developing situation in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that Ukrainian forces suffered more than 1,700 fatalities or injuries in these areas. Arestovich described the actions as not a broad counterattack but a smaller, still intense offensive. He noted that front lines had shifted in some places and supply routes were disrupted by bridges and ferry crossings, suggesting ongoing activity would intensify in the days ahead. Arestovich’s remarks were reported through Ukrainian media and followed by official updates from Moscow.

On September 1, Ukrainian media reported the start of a counteroffensive in the Kherson direction. The Russian Ministry of Defense said Ukrainian forces attempted an offensive in three directions across Mykolaiv and Kherson, but Russian forces defended successfully, resulting in substantial Ukrainian losses in personnel and equipment.
