This Wednesday morning, a major operation carried out by the Civil Guard, the General Directorate of Security, and the Deputy Director of the Customs Consultancy (part of the Tax Office) targeted a suspected drug trafficking network linked to money laundering. The investigation is being coordinated by the National Supreme Court as the case unfolds.
The operation began at first light and remains active, with authorities keeping certain elements of the inquiry under seal. Diario de Ibiza, a newspaper owned by the Prensa Ibérica group, reported that, in addition to the Civil Guard’s Judicial Police and the Madrid National Police Service, Customs Inspection specialists participated in the action. The judicial oversight of the operation, which falls under the National Supreme Court, has kept many procedural details confidential, resulting in limited public disclosure so far.
The initial information indicated that at least a dozen arrests were made yesterday, but further reporting confirmed that the total number of drug traffickers arrested across multiple searches on the island has surpassed twenty.
During the searches, authorities confiscated substantial sums of money that are believed to stem from drug sales. Several tens of thousands of euros were singled out by sources as notable seizures, and a full accounting of these assets will follow as the case progresses through secret proceedings.
The operations included searches at the Brisol building on 8 d’Agost street in Ibiza, as well as other locations on the island, with a focus on the Sant Josep municipality after months of ongoing investigations.
Cocaine, cannabis, and hashish in focus
During the inspections, authorities recovered varying quantities of cocaine, cannabis, and hashish, in addition to cash. Eyewitnesses reported that four alleged members of the network were taken into custody in the Brisol building during the early morning hours, in a cooperative action by the Civil Guard and the National Police. The group is described as an organized gang with a presence across the island.
The arrests occurred in a basement adjoining the Los Girasoles building, near the Santa Eulària road. Local sources noted that these facilities had been modified to serve as living spaces, and the same sources indicated that the drug-trafficking network operated from this residence among others distributed across the territory.
