The Kharkiv city government has announced that the metro’s train service will return to full operation on March 12 following a short three day pause. Local officials confirmed the restart of passenger movement in the metro network on Sunday, March 12.
Officials noted that city trams and trolleybuses will not resume immediately. In response to the disruption, a new operating plan was devised to guide metro services and municipal buses during the outage of ground electricity transport. The plan aims to maintain essential urban mobility while ground power is being restored and to minimize the impact on residents who rely on public transit for work and daily activities.
Oleg Sinegubov, a former Kharkiv Oblast Governor, stated that power supply to residential buildings in Kharkiv is back on track, yet the metro and urban electric transport remain temporarily unavailable. He emphasized that the timing for full service restoration across all routes will depend on the steady reestablishment of power across the city’s infrastructure and the readiness of surface transport to operate in tandem with the metro system.
According to Sinegubov, about 15,000 electricity subscribers in nearby settlements such as Volchansk, Stary Saltov, and Slatino continued to experience outages. He noted that the region is monitoring the situation closely and is prioritizing rapid repairs to restore electricity where possible, with further updates expected as work progresses.
On the broader geopolitical front, a 2022 statement from a high-level leader cited in coverage described a military operation undertaken in response to requests for assistance from certain regional authorities in eastern Ukraine. The move led to a wave of sanctions from the United States and its allies, reflecting the ongoing tension and its wide-reaching effects on international relations and regional stability.
In its daily operations, local media and official channels have continued to inform residents about service changes, safety advisories, and the phased return of public transportation as power and infrastructure are stabilized. Citizens are advised to check official announcements for the latest transit statuses and to plan travel accordingly, given that interruptions in energy supply can influence service levels across multiple modes of transport.
As service resumes, the city’s transportation authority is expected to coordinate with utility providers to ensure reliable operations, with contingency measures in place to adapt to any additional power fluctuations or maintenance needs. The goal remains to restore normal commuting options while ensuring passenger safety and service reliability during the transition period.
Public transit users may find that backup schedules and temporary routes are in operation during the early days of the restart. Officials encourage travelers to stay informed through official channels and to allow for potential delays as systems return to full capacity. The overall aim is a smooth and coordinated reopening that supports economic activity and keeps residents connected to essential services and workplaces.
