In Petrer, a dramatic incident unfolded involving a truck driver from the Alicante Traffic Subsector and a pedestrian. The driver engaged in a confrontation as the man attempted to enter the truck cabin during a rest stop. The situation escalated quickly, and the street fight lasted for several minutes before the pedestrian was fatally injured after being dragged for a distance of about three kilometers at a high speed. The events began in the early morning hours when the driver and a passerby became involved in a violent confrontation that ultimately led to a fatal outcome outside the vehicle region.

At 5:48 am on June 3, witnesses phoned the Civil Guard to report a man lying on the road with grave injuries. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene. Early indications suggested that the pedestrian had been struck by the truck during the altercation and sustained critical trauma.

Arriving at the site near the A-31 exit toward Salinetas, at kilometer 204.700, traffic protection officers found the victim beside tire marks that showed heavy braking. The marks confirmed that the impact occurred moments before the call to emergency services. The area was dark, and the truck had already left the scene after the collision.

Experts confirmed that the braking was recent, likely taking place just minutes before the 112 call. After the impact, investigators learned that the vehicle accelerated away at high speed and the victim did not receive aid. The pedestrian was transported to Alicante General University Hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day.

The investigation began under a traffic accident allegation and the crime of leaving the scene. Agents conducted a detailed examination of the crash site to locate the alleged perpetrator, as there was no clear identification of the person or the vehicle involved in the deadly incident.

From the evidence gathered, officials established that the truck involved was a heavy goods carrier and that it remained on the road for a portion of the incident. The inquiry progressed with the understanding that the carrier was the vehicle seen at the scene.

Following a rigorous review of all collected evidence, Civil Guard investigators located the truck at kilometer 201.900 of the A-31. The driver stated that the pedestrian had attempted to force entry into the cab as the vehicle stopped for a break. The confrontation began in the vicinity of Salinetas and extended toward Petrer as the carrier proceeded.

The pedestrian reportedly leaned from the rearview mirrors and clung to the steps leading to the cabin while the truck moved forward. The driver drove nearly three kilometers at a speed of about 100 kilometers per hour under those perilous conditions. In response to the threat, the driver redirected the vehicle onto a service road near a residential and industrial area, braking to prevent further harm. The impact caused the pedestrian to fall violently onto the road, and expert testimony confirmed the severe injuries that led to death.

The Traffic Research and Analysis Group conducted the inquiry, receiving support from the Transportation Team. Both units belong to the Alicante Civil Guard Traffic Sub-Sector. On June 10, a man was arrested. The suspect, a 56-year-old Hispanic male, faced charges of reckless manslaughter and neglect of duty to compensate for another crime.

The victim was identified as a 40-year-old Spanish national male. The motive for the attack by the pedestrian remained unclear, and there was no known prior relationship between the parties involved. The case was processed by Instruction Court No. 3 in Elda, which released the suspect on bail while the investigation continued.

Under the Penal Code, negligent manslaughter carries potential penalties including imprisonment ranging from one to four years, along with the prohibition on driving a motor vehicle and moped for a period of one to six years. For neglect of duty, sentences may range from six months to four years, with potential amplification based on the overall circumstances of the crime.
