In Volokolamsk’s urban district, a neighbor fired toward a house after a dog roaming freely drew the attention of residents. Russian regional police reported the incident as an armed confrontation linked to a dispute over a pet’s behavior.
The attack occurred in the village of Maloye Stromilovo when a local dog reportedly showed aggression toward people in the area. The dog owner did not address the concerns raised by a neighbor who observed the behavior and commented on it. In response, the neighbor retrieved a hunting carbine and discharged several shots at the neighbor’s home, aiming to intimidate rather than to injure.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities or serious injuries in the incident. Through a coordinated investigative effort, authorities identified a man born in 1954, previously convicted, as a person of interest and he was taken to the police department for further questioning. The Main Directorate of the Moscow Region Internal Affairs confirmed a weapon was seized as part of the case, following standard procedures for registry and seizure of firearms in local investigations.
Law enforcement officials continue to examine all circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the sequence of events, the behavior of the dog, and the reactions of the involved neighbors. The ongoing inquiry aims to establish responsibility and to determine whether any additional actions should be taken to prevent a recurrence of such violent clashes between residents over pets in private spaces.
The report notes that the individual involved previously experienced a non-lethal consequence after a separate dog-related incident, which ended with the individual being restrained by a neighbor. The current case has prompted authorities to emphasize adherence to local laws on pet ownership and firearm use, as well as the importance of de-escalating conflicts before they escalate into violence.
