The Imed Hospitals health group reported a remarkable growth in its latest annual results, with turnover rising by 44 percent and profit multiplying nearly fivefold compared with the previous year. This performance is detailed in the 2021 annual accounts filed with the Commercial Register by the Benidorm-based group.

Revenues reached 171.6 million euros. Across all its centers, turnover advanced by 12 percent against 119.1 million euros in 2020, despite pandemic-related restrictions. The management attributed the strong momentum to a broad-based expansion of services across its hospitals, with several units hitting full utilization in 2021, geographic growth of the group, and a resurgence of tourism to Benidorm, home to Imed Levante, the group’s origin hospital.

They highlighted that private health insurance played a meaningful role, driving activity in the Alicante and Valencia provinces where most facilities are located. In this respect, the firm’s earnings were notably influenced by insurance contributions, which stood at 81.5 million euros—almost half of total turnover—compared with 66.6 million euros from private services, 19.1 million euros from public health contracts and awards, and 4.1 million euros from mutual agreements.

That revenue growth translated into stronger profitability, with net profit rising from 5.9 million euros to 27.4 million euros, a four-and-a-halffold increase that underscores the group’s operating leverage and demand for its care offerings. This surge is presented as evidence of the company’s resilience and capacity to scale while maintaining high service levels.

in full expansion

Today, the Imed Group operates the Imed Levante hospitals in Benidorm, Imed Elche, and Imed Valencia. It also runs Imed Teulada, Imed Gandía, and Imed Torrevieja polyclinics, as well as the Imed Murcia Radiotherapy Oncology Centre. In addition, San Jorge Sanatorium is undergoing conversion into a hospital and a new polyclinic is planned in the same city to broaden access to care.

The company continues its expansion strategy and last year completed the acquisition of Gesalud Mediterráneo, a move that supported the development of a new hospital in Murcia. Looking ahead, the group announced plans for another general hospital in the Vistahermosa district of Alicante and began expanding the Imed Levante facility in Benidorm to accommodate growing demand.
