Hiking route through Mascarat canyon

The warm spell of Easter week offers an inviting moment to plan an outdoor outing. A scenic walking route winds through the Mascarat canyon in the Alicante province, ideal for sport lovers, nature enthusiasts, and family adventures alike. This path provides a refreshing escape into the natural landscape and promises memorable moments along the way.

The province of Alicante hides numerous natural gems perfect for a walk immersed in greenery. One standout is the Mascara Balla mountain pass, which separates the towns of Altea and Calpe and features impressive bridges that rise above the river. The route invites visitors to explore these striking structures while enjoying the surrounding scenery.

Two features define this walk: the towering canyon walls and the majestic bridges spanning the gorge. It is possible to walk between the sheer walls for about two kilometers, with over 100 meters of vertical relief and just a meter between the rock faces. Visitors can also admire the bridges built along the canyon, a striking element of the landscape.

What will the weather be like in Alicante this weekend?

This trail is easy to navigate, making it a perfect family activity. The canyon itself runs about 800 meters, forming a short loop of roughly 1.5 kilometers when including the return along the same path. Adding the initial approach from the parking area to the trailhead increases the overall distance a bit. The total route stays under two kilometers and is clearly marked for guidance. Children can observe the bridges from below and the structures above, which adds a sense of wonder to the experience.

While the route is straightforward, sensible footwear is recommended and parents should keep an eye on younger travelers at all times. The path is well maintained, but it is prudent to watch footing and stay hydrated, especially during warmer days.

When is the Mascarat canyon route done?

The route remains comfortable year round, though it is wise to avoid the peak heat of summer. Before setting out, check the local weather forecast and any alerts for rain. The route traverses a mountain pass that collects river waters, and heavy rain or storms can pose a risk. In parts of the year, the area can feel especially windy or cool, so a light layer is advisable. The forecast for Holy Week often features clear skies, which makes this an appealing time to walk the original path. [Source: Regional Tourism Authority]
