The Guardia Civil is examining a man in Malaga on suspicion of reckless driving and related offenses tied to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The events trace back to October 2 when multiple travelers along the Axarquia route reported a vehicle by phone, describing it as weaving and moving at an unusually slow pace as captured by another road user on video.
Following the alert, several Benemérita units halted traffic at the 246th kilometer mark on the A-7 motorway heading toward Malaga. The vehicle was traveling at roughly 70 to 80 kilometers per hour, with airbags deployed on the front left side and the tires seemingly worn.
The driver repeatedly changed lanes and strayed across the lane markings, forcing other motorists to take evasive actions to avoid a collision. Owing to the risk posed, many drivers chose not to attempt overtaking the vehicle. Officers conducted a drug and alcohol test on the driver, which registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.40 mg per liter in breath and indicated the presence of THC, cocaine, and amphetamines.
The Malaga Traffic Sub-Sector conducted a lengthy inquiry into the driver, charging the individual with driving without a license and additional offenses tied to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and controlled substances. [Attribution: Guardia Civil]
