Four individuals were arrested last Monday in Alicante after a violent robbery in which a 77-year-old woman was seriously injured. They were released the following day after appearing in court. Two of those detained come from the same family, with two minors aged 14 and 15 among the suspects. Although prosecutors had requested the detention of the youngest suspect, the Juvenile Court ordered release with supervision instead, according to close sources to the case.
The robbery, carried out with a violent approach, occurred on the afternoon of January 22 in the Alicante Cemetery neighborhood. The assailants robbed the victim of about one thousand euros intended for rent payments, along with her cards and other personal belongings kept in her bag. One of those arrested was precisely one of the victim’s tenants. The woman collapsed during the assault and required hospital care for about a week due to a head injury. Police suspect that the tenant provided information about the woman’s routine to facilitate the robbery.
Emergency services were alerted after a call to the 091 room reporting a violent robbery of an elderly woman near the Alicante Cemetery area.
First responders provided initial aid to the 77-year-old victim at the scene. Municipal security teams and medical professionals arrived to render assistance and later transported her by ambulance to Alicante General Hospital, where she received treatment for serious injuries.
The investigation was conducted by the Alicante Province Judicial Police Brigade Violent Crime Group. After giving a statement, the woman explained that she had come to the neighborhood to collect monthly rent for three buildings she leased. She had collected money for two rents and placed it in an envelope. As she prepared to leave one of the properties, she noticed that someone had observed her. She was attacked from behind and robbed of her bag.
Police were dispatched to the Cemetery neighborhood to apprehend those involved in the incident. According to the investigation, a 14-year-old boy was identified as the person who assaulted the woman to seize her bag and fled the scene, assuming she carried rent money. Investigators later determined that the envelope with the money had fallen to the floor during the robbery and was picked up by one of the three individuals who left the scene.
The victim lost consciousness after falling and striking her head. She woke up minutes later bleeding from the head and discovered that her purse and cash had been stolen.
Violent Crime Group investigators were able to identify and arrest a 14-year-old minor along with three relatives aged 15, 19, and 39, who were deemed responsible for the robbery. The arrests were conducted last Monday, and police later entered the homes of the detainees. All four individuals were brought before the Alicante court on Tuesday. Despite the severity of the injuries to the 77-year-old woman, all four suspects, including the alleged perpetrator, were released on bail or under supervision.
Sources indicate the case remains under active investigation as authorities review all recovered evidence and interview additional witnesses to determine the full scope of involvement and accountability among the suspects.
Notes from law enforcement emphasize procedures to protect vulnerable victims, particularly elderly residents who may fall prey to opportunistic crimes during routine activities such as collecting rent payments. Community safety officials remind residents to report suspicious activity and to use secure methods for handling cash and valuables when dealing with property management matters.
Inquiries regarding the case are being coordinated through local police channels, with investigators pursuing additional leads to clarify the timeline and roles of each individual involved in the incident.
