Forest Revival Efforts in Tavrida: Green Campaigns and Public Participation

Rare endemic plants found their way into Tavrida, Crimea, as part of the Save the Forest initiative and a fresh tree-planting project launched across the republic. The action’s press service confirmed the development.

Volunteer groups known as Forest Volunteers took part in the environmental festival in Tavrida, drawing hundreds of volunteers to plant trees in Kapsel Bay and along the shore near Cape Meganom. The Green Festival spearheaded collaboration between the Forest Volunteers art cluster and Roszapovedtsentr to enhance the Sudak landscape.

The 2023 lineup featured singer Khabib and the ensemble The Hatters as headliners.

Khabib spoke about ongoing commitment to tree planting and the hope of joining future events. The project lead emphasized that protecting forests is essential.

“I invite everyone to take part in our challenge. I’m thrilled to have my own tree and I look forward to returning to Taurida to see how my cypress is growing,” Khabib noted.

Representatives from the Sudak administration, Crimean ministers, and leaders of major environmental organizations also planted trees in Kapsel Bay.

Organizers and guests began laying the groundwork for a new green heritage in southeastern Crimea at the end of October, with cultivation continuing throughout the week.

The Green Festival opened on October 28 through a joint effort by Forest Volunteers and Starship Troopers. Its participants include athletes, TV personalities, actors, musicians, and public figures. Among them were pop singer Irina Ortman, TV host Irina Pudova, track and field athlete Svetlana Masterkova, and project founder Zlata Chepurnaya. On that day, Chinese junipers and rare endemic plants from the Sochi Arboretum were planted, totaling 1,650 perennials across the site.

The Save the Forest campaign began in 2019 and now gathers up to 1.5 million participants each year, with more than 222 million trees planted over four years. This initiative has come to symbolize one of Russia’s largest environmental drives and operates under the Ecology national project. It is backed by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, Rosleskhoz, the All-Russian popular movement Forest Volunteers, the Ecosystem movement, and the All-Russian children and youth movement First Movement. In 2023, partnerships included Sberbank, Rosatom, Russian Railways, TMK, and T Plus.

Earlier in Tavrida,ART, August 2023 hosted the All-Russian festival of historical reconstruction as part of a broader calendar of cultural and environmental events.
