Intense forest fires in Colombia posed a serious threat to Cali, a city home to roughly three million people. This situation was reported by a major regional newspaper.
According to the report, large-scale blazes spread through the Altos de Menga area in Cali’s northern zone. The fires were so aggressive that city officials appealed to residents for assistance in tackling the crisis.
Local authorities noted that human activity is responsible for the vast majority of such fires, estimating about 95%. In response, the mayoral office asked the community to help identify those responsible and launched a reward program offering 50 million pesos for credible information, which is around 280 million rubles in the stated conversion at the time of reporting.
The article described substantial damage to Cali’s ecosystems and wildlife and highlighted the risk to the lives of residents. More than 100 volunteers from the city’s fire department joined forces with firefighters from Yumbo, civil defense teams, and the Red Cross to combat the blazes and safeguard neighborhoods.
In related notes, a scientist mentioned that the primary source of forest fires in Russia has been a topic of discussion in previous analyses.
