Fire at Wildberries Warehouse in Shushary: Investigations and Impacts
Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, ordered the opening of a criminal case related to the fire at the Wildberries warehouse located in Shushary, a village in the Pushkinsky district of Saint Petersburg. The directive was issued in line with an official briefing from the committee’s press service reported via Telegram. A parallel note from the committee’s representative indicated that the case would focus on established facts surrounding the incident and its chronology.
In Saint Petersburg, Oleg Bobkov, acting head of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee, received instruction to initiate a criminal case and prepare a comprehensive report detailing the circumstances known to date. The task underscores the commitment to thoroughly document the events and any potential negligence or other offenses linked to the incident.
The fire at the Wildberries warehouse in Shushary began on the morning of January 13. At the time, more than a thousand people were inside the facility, and the initial alarm appeared to be misinterpreted as a false alert, delaying evacuation for some workers. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported that the burn area reached about 70,000 square meters before the fire was localized. Informational updates from Telegram channels Baza and Shot indicated at least two injuries and a missing person. Financial losses were estimated by authorities at around 10 billion rubles, highlighting the scale of damage to the retail infrastructure involved.
According to RIA Novosti, the blaze in Shushary was described as one of the largest fires in the history of Russian retail, underscoring its significant impact on inventory and operations in the sector.
