A man aged 52 was arrested in Alicante after authorities say he killed his tenant, a 66-year-old Romanian woman, with a knife and kept the body in a residence on San Vicente Avenue for nearly a month. The case unlocked when officers responded to a serious incident at the building and began a broader inquiry into the events surrounding the death.
According to police, the suspect contacted the police on Sunday night around 11:30 to report a confrontation with a woman living in his home, with whom he had no relationship or romantic connection. He stated that the body had been in the dwelling since late August. The immediate response from Citizen Safety patrols led officers to secure the location and begin a routine violent crime protocol after confirming the presence of the woman’s body, which was found wrapped in plastic bags and covered with a quilt. The discovery prompted a rapid, coordinated law enforcement response to document the scene and preserve potential evidence.
Check
Agents from the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade, the Violent Crimes Unit, and the Alicante Provincial Scientific Police Brigade arrived at the scene and briefed the judicial commission. The team conducted a methodical examination of the crime scene, collecting evidence and overseeing the transfer of the suspect to the provincial police cells. From there, standard procedures were followed as the case moved toward formal justice actions.
Investigators recovered a knife from the residence believed to be connected to the homicide and also gathered additional items and artifacts that could be relevant to the ongoing inquiry. The purpose of these materials is to piece together the sequence of events, identify any possible accomplices, and establish timelines that align with witness statements and forensic findings.
Authorities described the home as being in a very poor state of health, noting substantial debris and clutter throughout living areas. Such conditions can complicate investigations by obscuring evidence and posing risks to officers who must work within the space. The cleanup and careful documentation of the site are part of the standard investigative protocol in homicide cases, especially when living conditions are substandard and may raise concerns about neglect or material harm to occupants.
The exact motive behind the crime has not been disclosed by investigators at this stage. The body has been transported to the Alicante Institute of Forensic Medicine, where an autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause and manner of death and to provide additional forensic clarity that will support the criminal investigation.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to establish a full timeline of events, confirm the victim’s identity, and determine whether any other individuals were involved. Local law enforcement officials have stressed that all findings will be shared with the appropriate judicial authorities as the case progresses through the legal process.
