In a renewed plan for Charles III that trims costs and limits the movement of royal residences, attention shifts to trusted aides like Angel Kellytailor and Isabel II. Reported by a renowned fashion outlet, Kelly is described as the daughter of a Liverpool dockworker and a long-time confidant to the monarch who has served the crown for more than two decades. Just before the king’s passing, there were concerns about potential shifts in property arrangements. The coronation is set for May 6.

Earlier this month, the King reportedly requested that the Dukes of Sussex vacate Frogmore Cottage as part of ongoing financial tightening. This follows the decision to reduce royal patronage and military titles linked to past controversies. Buckingham Palace has opened discussions with Harry and Meghan, now based in Montecito, California, after Harry’s January publication of reflections that stirred strong reactions within the royal circle.

II. Elizabeth’s Promise

Despite Queen Elizabeth II’s pledge of a humble Windsor townhouse for life, Kelly, now 65, prepared to pack for a new residence in the coming weeks. For many years, she stood among the queen’s closest associates and wielded significant influence at the palace, though her official status shifted after the monarch’s passing. Camilla maintains her own fashion team.

Life brought a second setback for Kelly when, after Elizabeth’s death, Charles conferred upon her the title of Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, instead of the expected Dame Commander distinction some anticipated. Kelly nonetheless grew into a prominent figure in court life.

Cleaner in Germany

The first encounter between the queen and Kelly happened by chance during a royal visit to Germany, where Kelly was employed as a maid at the British ambassador’s residence. She took the chance to express a desire to return to Britain, and a year later World War II shaped events. Elizabeth then offered her a role as a wardrobe assistant.

Although not officially part of a labeled studio, Kelly, who has been married three times, is credited with designing many iconic outfits, coordinating hats, such as the pale yellow two-piece worn at William and Catherine’s wedding in 2011, and the mint green ensemble worn for the Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Kelly joined the queen at numerous public occasions, including a notable appearance at London Fashion Week in February 2018 alongside Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue U.S.

Shoe Fitting Room

Kelly’s guidance helped ensure comfort for the queen’s footwear. The queen reportedly preferred consistent sizing, and Kelly managed fittings to prevent discomfort. Known for practical work shoes, Elizabeth emphasized efficiency and comfort, often opting for black or brown options with a practical heel height of around five centimeters, reserving special ceremonial shoes that could be priced up to around 1,200 euros.

To maintain the queen’s impeccable appearance, a role was created in 2002 to oversee every minute detail of her public look. The title encompassed responsibilities as personal assistant, consultant, and curator of clothing, jewelry, and attire. The two spent extensive time together at Windsor Castle, shaping the queen’s public image.

‘AK47’ Temperament

Kelly, nicknamed “AK47” for a playful nod to initials and a familiar Russian firearm, is described as having a formidable temperament. A remembered incident involved a tense moment with a food service team member after a late lunch prior to an opening ceremony. Yet the bond often centered on discussions of clothing, makeup, and jewelry, with colleagues noting a practical, no-nonsense approach that kept things focused on their work.

Years ago, the stylist reportedly obtained permission to publish a book detailing her work with the royal wardrobe, a project that offered insiders a transparent view of the wardrobe’s inner workings. The queen, her dresser, and the rest of the team formed a close-knit unit, sometimes likened to a small cabinet dedicated to appearance and style.

Publicly, there was no indication of a formal stance on evacuation discussions for Charles. Palace officials described ongoing budget cuts, with plans to move items as needed and to refresh secure storage arrangements in the coming days.
