Eight people were involved in a serious incident when a car crashed onto a terrace at a bar on Thursday in Corralejo, a town in Fuerteventura, along Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen. The accident caused extensive damage to the terrace and left several individuals injured. Emergency responders from the local authorities arrived swiftly, coordinating efforts to secure the scene and provide medical care to those affected.
The Emergency and Security Coordination Center, also known as Cecoes 112, confirmed that numerous people were hurt, with several in critical or serious condition. The situation required rapid triage and mobile medical support to stabilize patients before transport.
A four-month-old girl arrived at the scene with severe polytrauma. She received initial stabilization on site and was then transferred by helicopter, accompanied by a pediatrician and a nurse from the Corralejo Health Center, to a regional hospital for advanced care. After receiving acute treatment, she was evacuated to a specialized facility for ongoing pediatric support.
In a separate stream of care, an eighteen-year-old girl with severe polytrauma was transported to the Virgen de la Peña General Hospital in Fuerteventura. From there she was moved by air to another hospital capable of providing higher level pediatric and neonatal services, ensuring she received comprehensive medical attention.
Among the other injured were a forty-year-old man, a forty-nine-year-old woman, and a forty-three-year-old man. Each of them was admitted to Virgen de la Peña General Hospital for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.
Additionally, a five-year-old girl, a forty-four-year-old boy, and a fifty-year-old boy sustained various moderate injuries. They received medical treatment at the Virgen de la Peña General Hospital as part of the coordinated response.
Two pediatricians, two doctors, and two nurses from the Corralejo Health Center were involved in the on-site care, supported by two medical helicopters, two medical ambulances, and three primary life support helicopters that were deployed to the scene.
The Emergency and Rescue Group, part of the regional government, dispatched a helicopter to assist with the mission, while firefighters, civil protection personnel, and local police units joined the response to secure the area and manage the flow of people and vehicles. The exact cause of the vehicle veering onto the central street and impacting the terrace remains under investigation.
