The Carmona Heist Involving Dreamlove, a Major National Distributor
The incident drew fierce public attention as one of the most talked-about robberies in the country’s recent history. Three thieves, masked and gloved, carried out a daring raid at Dreamlove, the leading national distributor of sexual wellness products, located in Carmona. They targeted eleven high-end vibrators plated in 24 carat gold, valued at more than 50,000 euros, along with substantial cash. The total value of the stolen goods approached 80,000 euros. After more than a year, those responsible remained at large, with questions about accountability still lingering.
As revealed by CASO ABIERTO, Prensa Ibérica’s investigation and news channel, the investigative court number 3 in Carmona decided to archive the case. The decision followed a period of inquiry by the Civil Guard, which could not bring any formal accusation against a specific individual due to lack of a clearly identified author.
Disruptions to street lighting and perimeter security
All activity was captured on security cameras belonging to Dreamlove and the Carmona Logistics Park on February 1, 2023. The culprits, clearly coordinated, were filmed approaching the premises where the company employs a sizable workforce of 153 people and also markets intimate apparel and cosmetics related to sexual health. They blocked the street with containers and set up barriers at access points to hinder police entry if detection occurred. In addition, they tampered with the street lighting, plunging the area into darkness as the operation unfolded.
Stolen items and the challenges of reselling
During the break-in, protective cases containing vibrating devices were opened and twelve devices ranged in price from 3,500 to 15,000 euros. These items, produced in limited quantities, are highly traceable and rarely found on illicit markets, complicating attempts to move them discreetly.
At 11:41 p.m., footage shows three individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts, armed with mallets and axes. They gained access through the main entrance and systematically checked every door in the building until they reached the office managed by Dreamlove’s owners. Only a handful of trusted individuals knew that cash, including thousands of euros, was kept on site. Eleven premium vibrators from the most exclusive range had been stored in a protective case, awaiting sale to a restricted clientele.
Vibrators as the centerpiece of the loot
Initial impressions suggested the items resembled gold bars, a sight that underscored their luxury status. The seized collection included devices that are only accessible to a select group of customers, described by a company executive as reserved for clients with substantial purchasing power. The most affordable item among the pilfered lot was priced at 3,500 euros, while the top model could fetch about 15,000 euros.
The Civil Guard began its inquiry by reviewing security footage. It became evident that only someone with intimate knowledge of the Dreamlove facility, an 8,000-square-foot site, could orchestrate the theft in such a short window without triggering alarms from neighboring businesses or security staff. The operation suggested a night-time understanding of the space and its routines, hinting at careful planning.
Suspicion and internal risk
Investigators explored the possibility that the suspects conducted preliminary surveillance of the compound, laying the groundwork for the attack. Another line of inquiry considered whether a former Dreamlove employee might have participated or assisted the gang by providing inside information. The term used to describe such a possible insider is a trusted contact who could relay privileged information to the intruders.
The mystery of value and intent
As discussions continued, the case did not clarify whether the thieves fully understood the monetary or intrinsic value of the collectibles or whether they encountered the items during the raid and decided to add them to their haul. The Civil Guard reported substantial effort to identify everyone present that night, but the investigation effectively paused after the court rejected certain procedural steps. The judge then opted to close the case for the time being.
The inquiry did not conclusively determine whether the thieves valued the items at the time of the break-in, if they chased after the valuables, or if they happened upon the vibrators by chance and chose to seize them along with the cash.
Market challenges for gold-plated toys
Experts interviewed by CASO ABIERTO warned that placing eleven gold-plated vibrators on the legal market would be exceptionally difficult, regardless of the precious metals surrounding them. The reluctance of sellers to engage with such a unique stock became a barrier to laundering the items. Officials and trade partners declined to comment extensively on market dynamics, but the theft’s conspicuous nature did complicate attempts to move the goods discreetly.
The company maintains a broad distribution footprint, selling to countries including Portugal, France, Germany, and Italy, in addition to Spain. Its client base is relatively specialized, primarily consisting of sexual wellness shops and consultants who cater to events and tastings in the space of adult products.
