If someone is part of a large family, they know how quickly expenses multiply. So any discount or exclusive service, as well as any social benefit or tax deduction, is welcome. In this sense, the Tax Agency (AEAT) allows families formed by one or two adults with three or more children to obtain a compensation in the income tax return of 1,200 euros, which can double up to 2,400 euros. Here are the requirements and how to apply.
Single-parent families with two children under their care can also request this wagelike aid since the entry into force of the family law, which not only creates new allowances for child and family care but also broadens the concept of a large family.
When it doubles to 2,400 euros
The Tax Agency states on its website that the maximum amount of this aid is 1,200 euros for regular large families, that is, families with three children or two children if one has a disability.
The amount can increase by 100% to reach 2,400 euros, provided that those households have five or more children and meet the special category condition.
Additionally, the Tax Authority now allows the aid to be shared among declarants within the same family, though it will be prorated among them. On the flip side, there is a restriction: this deduction is not compatible with the deduction for a parent living separately or without a marriage bond with two children up to 25 years old.
How to apply

The AEAT website explains all the steps to join this deduction. They are the following:
- Submit the draft of the income tax return within the annual deadline.
- If the result is positive, subtract the deduction amount and request a refund for the difference.
- If the result is negative or zero, directly request the refund of the amount.

The Tax Agency allows requesting an advance payment through form 143. If granted, the beneficiary receives the compensation monthly in equal portions (100 euros each) rather than a single payment.
