Cyber Harassment Case in Alicante: Police Arrest Woman for Coercion and Online Threats

Alicante’s National Police Agents reported an arrest in the city following a case of coercion tied to online harassment. A lawsuit was filed against a woman accused of coercing a man with whom she had a past romantic involvement. The allegation centers on threats and intimidation carried out through anonymous online profiles, aimed at controlling or harming the victim after the end of their relationship.

The investigation began after the male victim filed a complaint with the authorities. He disclosed that over several weeks he had received repeated threats via unknown profiles on a widely used social network. The messages warned of harm and included claims about knowing the victim’s residence. Personal information about the man was publicly shared, intensifying the distress he experienced. In addition, the victim began receiving a high volume of calls from blocked or hidden numbers, disrupting his daily life and sense of safety.

The victim explained that the intimidation appeared to originate from a former partner and indicated that at least one of the harassers appeared to be female. The harassment intensified after the end of their romantic relationship, suggesting a history of personal grievance that was being exploited through digital channels.

As the case progressed, additional individuals joined the online campaign, using different anonymous social media profiles to threaten and harass the victim. The nature of these actions pointed to a coordinated effort, seemingly led or organized by the person under investigation.

National Police agents from the Technological Crimes Group of the Alicante Provincial Police Station conducted a lengthy inquiry, extending beyond three months. The investigation highlighted the challenges of tracing perpetrators who operate behind anonymous profiles and of obtaining cooperation from some social networks when it comes to releasing user data. The process showcased the complexity of modern cybercrime investigations, particularly when the evidence travels across multiple online platforms and jurisdictions.

Despite these obstacles, investigators were able to identify one of the profiles that had issued threats against the victim. The profile belonged to a 27-year-old Colombian woman who, according to the investigation, was the person suspected by the victim. She was detained on suspicion of coercion, marking a significant development in the case and a key step toward resolving the online intimidation campaign.

The harassment described includes persistent calls intended to disturb the victim, threats, publication of personal data, and the recruitment of third parties to participate in the intimidation. In common parlance this type of behavior is referred to as cyber harassment and is also described as stalking through digital means in English-language contexts. The term captures the intent to inflict moral and financial harm on the target by exploiting online technologies.

Further developments emerged as authorities linked additional incidents to the broader pattern, identifying three more individuals who had operated under anonymous profiles and who were located elsewhere in Spain. While the investigation continues, authorities have signaled that further arrests may follow as the inquiry expands to uncover all participants in the scheme.

All proceedings to date have been submitted to the competent Court of Inquiry in Alicante. The investigation remains active as investigators pursue additional leads and aim to locate and apprehend any remaining perpetrators connected to the case.

Law enforcement officials emphasize the importance of reporting online coercion and harassment, and they remind the public that digital abuse is a serious crime with real-world consequences. The authorities urge victims and witnesses to come forward and provide any new information that could help clarify the full scope of the incident and ensure accountability for those involved.
