Cristina Pedroche faces new bells tonight on Antena 3. The iconic presenter returns to the Campanadas stage at Puerta del Sol, joined by a familiar face as the year turns. The tradition began when Pedroche shared the moment with Frank Blanco more than a decade ago, and since then the last night of the year has become a landmark event watched by millions across the country.
Cristina Pedroche is live at Puerta del Sol, accompanied by Alberto Chicote, as the ninth chimes approach on Antena 3. This year holds extra meaning with the arrival of her daughter Laia and Pedroche’s renewed role as a host on Password. The interview provides a rare glimpse into how she navigates such a meaningful moment, balancing personal milestones with a high-profile broadcast.
These are your tenth bells in Atresmedia. Are there more or fewer prints than the first editions?
I don’t experience the bells with pressure; I feel them with growing enthusiasm each year. This is the most special night on the calendar, and I want every detail to come together so the audience can savor it as well. The thrill comes from knowing how many viewers are counting on a memorable moment, and that energy fuels the performance from start to finish.
I imagine this year will be one of the most special bells and whistles because of everything that has happened to you this year.
Every year holds something unique, there is always a reason to celebrate. Undoubtedly, becoming a mother has sharpened her focus on what matters most and what is simply urgent, prompting a deliberate emphasis on mental health as part of her annual routine.
One of the most anticipated moments of the year is always when you reveal the dress a few seconds before the bells. It has become a tradition that helped Antena 3 become the leading network last year. How do you experience this ritual?
With a mix of nerves and determination to ensure perfection. Months of preparation culminate in those final seconds, when everything must be flawlessly aligned so that the designer, who helped create the stunning gown, feels an immense sense of pride.
What was the outfit preparation like for this special event this year?
This year tested the balance of everyone’s schedules but proved to be incredibly meaningful. The moment of seeing her daughter in the past year’s milestones felt especially rewarding, and even if the little one won’t remember, she will cherish those memories forever.
What’s the trick you and Josie always have to surprise with your outfit choice?
There’s no shortcut; every year they discard old ideas and strive to reinvent themselves. It’s a demanding process, yet Josie remains a fearless source of fashion insight and a joy to collaborate with, making the partnership a true creative pleasure.
This year Josie premiered at Neox. Did you give him any advice?
Josie doesn’t need guidance; she’s outstanding. She will bring her full energy to the moment, enjoy the experience, and guarantee a fantastic time for the audience.
We saw you in the Camela special program broadcast by TVE. Would you like to ring the bells with them for a year?
Working with Camela would be a special experience. They are part of her family, and sharing that moment would be meaningful on many levels.
Will David and Laia join you at the end of the bells?
Motherhood taught her to prioritize her child’s well-being. While she would love to have him by her side at Puerta del Sol, she believes he will be happier and warmer at home with her mother after the bells, a choice that balances presence and care for her family.”
